WinWinner by Rav Gyani

Windows 9x/Me allows a user to make certain adjustments to their settings based on what THEY thought users would want, not what they actually wanted! Of course, someone out in cyberspace has to come along with a utility that will change all of this. Thanks to Ravi Gyani, WinWinner allows a Windows user to change tons of different settings to their environment. Read further and see exactly what you're in store for if you download and install this ditty! :)

Platform........

Windows 95, 98, Me!!

Web Site..........

My first try fishing for the site caught a page stating that they "exceeded it's allowable data transfer"! That might give us an idea on how popular this freeware just might be! After an hour or so, I was able to get on and found that it gets right to the point. One page, showing a few other programs along with WinWinner. There are no confusing links to follow, no flashy graphics to wrestle over. The download links are there in plain site. Perhaps a screenshot or two for each program would enhance the site, but when you see what's inside WinWinner, you'll realize that it was developed more for it function than for it's looks.

Downloading........

Size zipped: Almost a Meg (.zip file)

Size Installed: about 2.8 megs plus system files)

Installation..........

Open the zip file into a temp directory and click on the .exe file. There's a EULA that you must agree to, pick a directory, and in it goes. As far as I could see, none of the files enter the Windows/System directory, which is a bonus for uninstalling! The program also needs a re-boot before it can be effective.

Help Files..........

The help file is excellent as it explains EVERY setting that is possible in the utility. There are no screenshots but as I said, this program is all function!

Interface.............

What can I say! There really isn't a whole heck of a lot of color and graphics here. WinWinner is a program made up of a seven tabbed window, with each window giving you a slew of options to look over. The tabs are broken down into different areas of the windows interface. They start with "General, Windows Explorer, DeskTop, Start Menu, Office, Network, and About". Pics of each are found below.

Features...........

WoW!! This thing is packed! I could spend about 20 minutes and a ton of typing telling you all of the different settings that WinWinner does. Instead, I've decided to show you each of the six main windows that offer you the choice of settings. Below are the screenshots. Take a close look at each to see exactly what is offered in WinWinner:

In addition to the help files mentioned above, placing your mouse pointer above each check box will bring up a DETAILED explanation of what that setting is for. This is a great tool tip idea which can come in handy when you consider how many settings this program actually lets you change.

Does it Work...........

Yes it does! As you can see, there are lots of little things that you can play with to customize your windows environment. In addition to these settings, a number of different check boxes will bring up further areas at the bottom of the displayed window to give you a place to put additional information, such as renaming the Start button. As a little bonus, the "About" window gives you an option to password protect your program and a button to get your system information.

Problems.........

Not as of yet.............

Closing.........

This little utility will be on my computer for as long as Windows 9x/Me will be there. I like that idea that you are not bound by the limitations that Microsoft left into their operating system. I mean after all, didn't they think that we would WANT to change the name of the start button!!?? :)

Enjoy
