TClock by Kazubon TClock is a small, sweet desktop utility that will allow you to change the look of your taskbar clock as well as allowing you to configure your start button with your own words and icon. The program itself takes a few extra minutes to install as there is no install utility, but for a bit of work, TClock will allow you to change toolbar settings not offered by the Windows operating system itself. Downloading........ Size zipped: 178k Size Installed: Not much more at 303k! An instant and quick connection. A breeze at 178k (What! A 14.4 modem, sheesh.............OK, about five minutes!) Web Site.......... The site seems to be of oriental origin, but it does contain an english page which is where the home page link goes to. The page is not flashy and basically gets right to the point, giving you the highlights of the software and the download links. Installation.......... OK, to install this utility you have a bit of work to do. The downloaded file is a zip compression file so you'll need one of the great freeware compression utilities that are available. First open up your file manager (windows explorer is the standard) and make a folder (directory) somewhere (either in c: or in Program Files) and call it Tclock. Next, open up the .zip file and place all of the files into the directory you just created. Finally, right click on your taskbar and choose "Properties". Click the "Add" button, find the .exe file in that directory you made (use browse), then, pick the "Start up" folder to put it in. You're done! Now, you can either click on the program under the Start Button => Programs => Start Up folder, or you can reboot you're machine which will start the program after windows loads. Help Files.......... TClock uses a standard Windows help design to give you the assistance you need to learn the program. The fonts are large, colorful and the help system includes screen captures, though some of these are in an oriental language (Chinese I believe!). That's ok though, you'll get the idea! :) Here's a sample pic of the help window:
Interface........... TClock is basically an interface utility anyway and really doesn't have it's own "look" except for the help and configuration windows. You are given the ability to change the look of your clock in your taskbar as well as the start button, plus a few other goodies. You may find that after having it load at boot for a while, you don't even notice that it's a separate program! Features........... Oh yeah!! There are some nice little goodies contained in this little piece of code!
First, the display for the clock is totally configurable allowing you to change the font, time and date display, background color (2 of these for blending!), the clock height and width, plus more! Here's a pic of the TClock Properties window where you make all of your settings and changes.
Here's the way I currently have my clock setup on my desktop! (Does anyone recognize the programs that are shown by my taskbar icons!?):
TClock hits the other side of the taskbar by allowing you to customize the text in your "Start" button along with your choice of icon. The border color and of start menu is also changeable along with the ability to add a .bmp to the edge! Here's a pic of my taskbar with my start text and icon. It says Buzzy's and the small icon is a smiley face that comes with the program:
TClock comes with a timer/alarm and allows you to play a sound every hour if you want. Another great feature of TClock is that this version allows you to setup your clock so that it is synchronized with an official internet clock of your choice every time you log on! Just find a site that gives you the proper time (there are examples available from their web site!) and set it up. The program will do the rest! The clock on the taskbar not only tells time, but it becomes a tool with TClock as you can setup your mouse to do a configurable chore when double or single clicked!! I have mine set to "close Windows" but there are other choices such as "Run, copy to clipboard, minimize all windows, plus more. Lots of goodies for such a small size!! Problems......... I am running and reviewing the beta and I've found no problems yet. I'll be updated and sending e-mail if I do. Closing......... Just three points to make. First, look at the size. Second, look at the functionality, Third, download this thing and install it. You're gonna love it!!!
