StatBar by Mr. B's Globe Software Platform........ Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me, and XP!! Web Site.......... This is a nicely organized site. The colors are soft and the fonts are all standard. A main bar at the top allows you to go to the important areas of the site dealing with Stat Bar. The download links are embedded in the text at the bottom which really encourages the potential user to read the site. I always suggest this to my friends as there may be very important information within the site that might not be noted yet in the help files or the enclosed "readme.txt" files that some archived programs have. Downloading........ Size zipped: 235k (.zip file) Size Installed: 303k (that's it. There's no system files for Windows!!) This was a nice quick connection! Installation.......... The zipped file contains the three files necessary for the program to run. There is no install utility so you'll have to make a directory to unzip the files is (I suggest a subdirectory called "StatBar" in your "Program Files" dir.) Once you've opened up the zip in it's directory, make an icon for it on your desktop or put it in your "Start" menu to begin when your computer boots up. Help Files.......... StatBar comes with an excellent help file system using the standard help file runtimes. There are some great screenshots there to help you along too. Features........... StatBar gives you an information bar that can be put either on the top or bottom of your screen (I prefer the top). From here, a right click on the bar gives you the configuration menu which gives you a few initial choices for the physical look of the bar such as "window position", "color scheme", an "update check", plus "auto hide" and a favorite feature of mine, "require mouse click when autohiding". This makes a click mandatory to bring up the bar from where you have positioned it. Also in this menu you'll find the "statbar configuration" area where you can make a few more detailed adjustments to this great info utility. The first area is the "module selection" where you actually pick which bit of info you want to be presented on your screen. The areas have been broken down into pixels and a size bar is presented which darkens in color as you make your choices. The more you choose, the more you fill the bar until you can't fill it any more. It's a great way to help a user know exactly how much real estate they have for their info. StatBar give you lots of choices too. Instead of listed them, here's a pic of the first configuration area which lists all the parts you can include:
The second area is for "general options". Some of the selections here are repeated in the original right click menu. Here's a pic of that window to show you what you can do with it:
The third area is "module options" where you can change the display features and the time server used to update your clock (automatically!!!). Here's a pic:
The fourth is just the area where you set the directory parameters for the program. From StatBar you can keep track of your hard drives, processor, ram, windows uptime, then when you're all finished for the day, you can logoff, shutdown, or reboot. Does it Work........... StatBar is great! Period! I have mine set to display only when I click on the top of the screen. One click and StatBar is there for my every whim. There have been times when I first started using this freebie when I would take the long route to get some info (for the hard drive), only to remember StatBar after opening up the file manager. I now use it constantly for logging off, and shutting down. Problems......... None that I've experienced. It has worked flawlessly for myself. The site shows may features which are planned for future releases of StatBar. As it is now, it's great. I can imagine what it will be like with all of the new ideas implemented. Closing......... I suggest you download this program and give it a go. I can't say for sure but you just might find it a useful little nugget of freeware!
