Crazy Browser by CrazyBrowser.Com

Since the death of "Internet Surfer" as freeware, I have been searching for a replacement freeware parcel that could give me some of the features that Surfer had with maybe a few extra ideas thrown in for good luck. Success has shown itself on my doorstep as Crazy Browser adds some excellent additions to the Microsoft Internet Explorer in a package that's less than a meg in download size. Interested? Read on my friend! :)

Platform........

Windows 95, 98, Me, 2000, XP, NT 4.0 or later! Plus, this program needs Microsoft's Internet Explorer 5.0 or later.

Web Site..........

The Crazy Browser web site is very polished and easy to navigate. A small menu on the left takes you to the different areas for the program. There are some excellent screenshots at this site complete with add in description balloons that give detailed information on the different parts of the windows.

Downloading........

Size zipped: 716 K (.exe file)

Size Installed: About the same

The download is fast and easy. No problem connecting and for the size, it's barely a wait even with a 56k modem.

Installation..........

This is a self installing .exe file so find it, click it, agree to the EULA, pick a spot, select a start menu folder, and away you go. From what I can see there are no files installed in the Windows/System directory.

Help Files..........

The help files for Crazy Browser are complete with many screen shots to show you exactly where you will find what they are describing! This is always great to see in a complete program like this! As I mentioned above, their site has some excellent screenshots and a F.A.Q. page to help you through if you feel you need it.

Interface.............

Crazy Browser makes use of the Microsoft Internet Explorer engine to give you a feature filled interface with added features that you might find useful. Key to this browser shell is the tabbed interface which gives you all of your open windows organized using a tab system which can be maintained along the horizontal or vertical sides of the window. Using this system gives you only ONE open program in your taskbar while the use Internet Explorer will give you one for EACH open window. Working with multiple programs is much easier without the clutter showing on your taskbar!!

All of the toolbars, information bars, and link bars are configurable and movable. Place them anywhere you want. Here's a pic of my setup and the position of all of my bars in the program (with a few of my favorite site tabs showing just to give you an idea.). Notice: this is a sized window and not full screen:

Notice that all of the features you need are within easy reach. The X'ed icons on the right of the address bar allow you to close the current window, all unavailable windows, and all windows except locked. The layout is one of the best I've seen for an Explorer shell.

Features...........

There's quite a bit to talk about here so I better get started!! Besides the tabbed windows, Crazy Browser has a built in popup window filter which allows you to select and save any site which contains popups. Save the site and when you visit there, all of the popup windows will close by themselves. Talk about handy!! This is an excellent addition to any internet browser, especially for those who like to visit popup filled fan club sites! :)
Crazy Browser has a menu area filled with all of the essentials necessary for fast surfing including "Favorites"; "History" which lists specific areas from yesterdays history to last weeks; "Tools" giving you access to setting the default browser and clearing your history including cookies, url's in the address bar, and your temporary internet files plus; "Options" giving you an abundant of choices for your page download settings and tab locations! The "Advanced Options" menu item gives you a window where you can make many more selections. Here are a couple of pics showing the "popup filter" , and the general settings for the browser tabs:
Another great feature which I haven't seen before is the ability to open all of your favorites which you have listed in any specific topic or directory in your favorites area. For example, lets say you go online, open up Crazy Browser, and immediately go to your "freeware" favorites directory in your menu listing (you do have one right!!?). From there you can choose to "open all links" listed in that area. That can sure save on the clicking!! From there you can pick the ones you are interested in and "lock" them in place. Now, clicking on the "close all tabs except locked" icon to the right of the address bar will get rid of the clutter and keep all of those locked pages up for your examination. This feature is also available in the "History" menu area, where you can open all links to a specific sites directory! Amazing!! :)
One more great feature is the "Navigate Bar" which shows on the left of the window and gives you three tabs for your history, favorites, and an excellent search area which not only has the most popular search engines listed, but also gets more specific dealing with searches for newsgroups, weather, downloads, images, mp3's, news and so on! Another excellent addition!

Problems.........

I have found that this program has worked flawlessly for me, every day, for the past two weeks. No problems yet!

Closing.........

Crazy Browser is an excellent Explorer shell and I'll be keeping it on my hard drive for me to enjoy for some time to come. If you don't mind using the Microsoft Internet Explorer engine, grab a hold of this and start really enjoying your surfing on the net!! :)

Enjoy
