ClickTray Calendar by WASEO Software

While searching different programs, one may come along that is so full of goodies that it's really hard to believe that the program is free. In my opinion, ClickTray Calendar is one of these freebies. When I first ran the setup program and started it up for the first time, I couldn't believe my eyes!! Here was everything I was looking for and more. Here's what I found:

Platform......

The web site says “486er with 32 megs of memory”. I'm running it on XP with tons more memory so I'm going to assume here that it will run on basically every issue of Windows from 95 and beyond. If you try it and it doesn't work, please let me know so I can update this information.

Web Site..........

The web site for this freeware is in both German and English and is extremely colorful!! If you start from the home page you'll be passing through about three different windows before you get to the program so the link above goes directly to the software. I suggest you visit the rest of the site too in case there's something else you might find interesting!

Downloading........

Size Downloaded: 2.60 megs

Size Installed: 6.3 megs

Installation..........

The file is an .exe file and clicking it will bring up a screen asking you to pick a directory to place a few files. I have a directory on my C: drive called “Install” and that's where they went. After a successful extraction, the install program begins using a typical opening screen, giving you the EULA, suggesting a place to put it, and off you go. No reboot is necessary either!

Help Files..........

The help files are nicely laid out and give the user all the information necessary to get through this great accumulation of code. Complete with screenshots, you'll have no problem getting through the learning curve.

Interface & Features ...........

Hang on to your hats because here we go!

ClickTray Calendar has many great features and most of these are accessible right from the opening screen. Here's a pic of the default window showing the layout. Though this view is very colorful, the display is completely configurable including colors and wallpapers, some of which are downloadable from their site! ClickTray Calendar lets you to configure your display the way YOU want it:

The program displays information specific for each day in a small window just below the calendar. This tabbed window shows information for the day, week and month as well as the alarms which have been set, prewarning of upcoming events, and the to do list. Each of these displays are set with the icons which are along the right side of the program. These icons come with text labels to easily identify their function. Let's take a look at each one and see what the do!

The first icon is the 'start notice' which displays the text that will show when the computer is booted up and the program launches. Just think of it as a reminder note to keep you informed. This start notice is setup in the 'Prewarnings' button accessed from the same icon area. The setup for the prewarnings is completed using a 4 step program making it easy to use. Here's a pic of the setup area for this as well as an example of a startup notice:

The next icon is to set your personal holidays. These holidays will not only show up on the calendar, they will be listed just above the month display along with the season and any anniversaries that you have programed. Here's a pic of the holiday setup window:

The next icon will allow you to see the phases of the moon. Simple, yet if your an amateur astronomer like myself, this could be quite handy to see when the sky will be 'dark'! Next icon is to display the 'year overview' which basically shows you the entire year with the days which contain any information highlighted. You could see how busy you REALLY are from this area. The following icon is to figure out the 'date calculation' of a specific period of days. You can figure out how many working days you have before you go on vacation just by clicking out the weekend days and presto, too many!! :) Here's a pic of this:

Next is a 'file merger' which does exactly what it states, it merges files to a specific year. The 'alarms' icon brings you to the area where alarms are setup for the program. These can be set for repetition and include text areas where you can set specific notices with the alarms. Here's a pic of the alarms setup area:

The 'Wallpaper' just takes a snapshot of your program window and puts it on your computer desktop. It's great if you want to keep that calendar right in front of your eyes without opening up the program all the time. The 'prewarnings' icon I have already mentioned above. The 'To Do List' is a nice area to keep reminders of all those projects you've been putting off but have been meaning to do. The 'notice overview' give you a rundown of the notices that you've setup. The 'calendar printer' will run a great hangup calendar for you. This can have pictures of your choice added and the display is complete configurable including font, notices, holidays, color display, and more!! You should download the program just to see this! Here's a pic of the setup window:

Next is 'addresses' which is an address book to keep all of those important contacts and following this a 'notebook' which is a great area to keep multiple amounts of personal data. This is a very complete function including configurable fonts, link listing, locks and encrypting and password protection. Here's a pic of the notebook setup:

The last icon (finally!) is a backup utility which will take all of your data and place it in a directory of your choosing so that you can back it up with your cd burner, tape backup or floppy. An excellent touch!!

To finish off, here's a pic of the options window where you can fine tune the program settings itself:

Problems.......

This version seems very solid and I haven't had any problems yet. I suggest you keep the web site in your 'favorites' listing like I have to check for updates and information on issues that may come up with this program.

In Closing ..........

Believe me, there's much more to this program that I really haven't touched. As usual, I suggest you download this and load it up! You might be as surprised as I was to see how much really is in ClickTray Calendar!

Enjoy!!
