ShutDownPro by Kurt Zimmerman (Notice: This review was written before the most recent update, but many of the features are the same. Download it and see!!) You're finished all of your work for the day on the computer. The bills, diary entries, e-mails to the family, e-mails to the bill collectors, imputing data for your collection, cutting and cropping your scans of the family picnic, well..................... I'm sure you get the idea. Quick, where do you go to shutoff your computer!!?? Na............ don't go to the start menu! Just go down to the little lighting bolt in the tool tray, one click, done!!! Just as fast as that!! ShutDownPro is just that! A pro at shutting down your computer in the fastest time possible. No muss, no fuss! Bang! Done! Deep inside this little utility, you'll find some great little functions that make this more than just a normal shutdown shortcut. Here's the skinny: Platform........ Windows 95, 98, 2000, Me Downloading........ Size zipped: 200k (.exe file) Size Installed: 200k in one directory only! This file is slightly under 200k in size comprised of a self installing .exe file. Should be a quick download for just about anybody! (Anyone remember 2400 baud!!??) :) Web Site.......... Nice color, nice font, clean and easy to read! Just the way I like it. The site gets right to the point at introducing the utility to the visitor. The menu on the left takes you to other programs offered, plus the usual links, e-mail connection, etc. plus a German version of the site. Installation.......... Clicking on the .exe file brings a window to extract files for installing, then a nice window displays which gives you a choice of installing in German or English. Cute!! Even the buttons change language. Agree to the license, pick a spot to put it, and there you go. It's that simple! Help Files.......... None to speak of. I can't even find a readme file in it's directory. You'll just have to play with it!! :) Features........... ShutDownPro is a nice, simple utility which enters a small icon into your toolbar which can be used to quickly shut down your entire computer. Of course, there's more to it. Right clicking on that icon brings a menu list with some nice little goodies on it. First, "Info" give you the program information. Next, "Options" give you exactly that, one window of options which you can choose from. Here's a pic: Here's you can make you're setting for the "TaskManager" , "During Shutdown", "Screen Options", plus at the bottom there are two check boxes for "starting at startup", and "emptying the Temporary Internet Files Folder at startup". I won't explain all of the settings as they are fairly obvious from the pic above. In the right click menu from the tool bar icon, there is a nice selection of utilities which you will find very handy!. Here's a list: Favorites : Is a list of your favorite programs which you can add to or take away from. Desktop : Is for windows adjustments for maximize, minimize, refresh, and close. System : Gives you Screen Properties, Task Manager plus, information dealing with the CPU, windows runtime and system resources. Tools : Which will take you screen properties, rebuild your icons, and open and close the CD Rom door! Plus, here is where you can find specific ways of logging off such as User Logoff, Standby Mode, Fast Reboot, and Complete Reboot. At the bottom is where you can shut down the program and Close PopupWindow. As you can see, there is a very nice selection of great additional utilities tacked on to this ShutDown Pro! :) Does It Work......... You can bet the bank on it!! No only is this a "Pro" at shutting down you system super quickly, the utilities can be extremely handy. The windows manipulation is a great help, plus the system information is easy to get to when you need it. There is a through choice of shutdown options too. I tried changing the screen size properties from this program and it made the modification and kept them there for 5 seconds while I decided whether I wanted them or not. It was a good thing too as I couldn't make out the screen image with the changes that I had made!! Oh yeah, and it shuts down a computer like a pro too!! :) Problems......... On my computer, the menu that pops up from the taskbar takes its time closing, but that may be my computer and the memory (darn RamDrive!!). The program itself is smooth and simple. No problems there! Closing......... There are a lot of good reasons to keep this on your computer as I have. Download it and give it a try if you get a chance. Over and OUT (Click!). Enjoy Buzzy J
