Digita Organizer by Digita.com

P.I.M. = Personal Information Manager. Just about every person who types on a keyboard has things to do other than spending all of their time at the computer. Things such as meetings, visiting relatives and friends, things to do and get, anniversaries and birthdays to remember etc. etc.! To many people, keeping track of these events and thoughts can be overwhelming at times . Digta Organizer allows you to take all of your personal information and organize it into a nice package that is easy to use and even easier to enjoy. Check this out:

Downloading........

Size zipped: 1.4k (.exe file)

Size Installed: Not much more at 3.1 megs!

The site requires that you give an e-mail address for downloading. The file is quite small and the connection was immediate. With my DSL hookup, downloading was less than a minute.

Web Site..........

The web site looks professionally done and contains much of the information needed to get a good idea of the program. The Organizer page is one of a number of pages on the Digita.com site which advertises many of their commercial products. The pages are easy to read and are not cluttered with a bunch of pics.

Installation..........

The downloaded file is a self install .exe. Just click on it and the installer will do the rest. No problem.

Help Files..........

Digta Organizer uses the standard Windows help file system to guide you through the program. It comes complete with a "10 minute tour" of the organizer, tips and tricks, reference information, trouble shooting plus if you wish, fortune cookies. The help pages come with copies of the interface to show you exactly what you should be doing. Here's a pic of a help page:

Interface...........

Digita Organizer comes with a really decent interface which looks very much like a standard three ring organizer. There are tabbed separators which divide the different areas of the PIM that you will use. There are tabs for calendar, diary, tasks, addresses, and supplements. The program can go full screen to give you a big organizer, or it can be adjusted to give it that small, compact look. The interface itself can be adjusted to allow a calendar of the current three months to show on the right hand side, plus you can add or remove the different toolbars as well as the status bar. Here's a pic of the interface as I have it:

The windows that you use to fill out the information to the various sections of Digta Organizer are simple and clearly displayed. Just a double clicking on any section will bring up one of these screens. Here's a pic of one:

Features...........

For freeware, Digta Organizer has a lot going for it! The "three ringed binder" interface is presented well and looks great with each section having a tab on it's outer edge. Here, I'll explain each area in detail:

Calendar:

These pages show six months at a time. Clicking on any date will open the diary area for that day, giving you a place to input your info. Each time you have information contained on any day in the diary, the day is highlighted in the calendar to inform you (you can shut this off on the toolbar!). Just double clicking on that day will bring up the information. The pages are "leafed" on the bottom which will allow you to turn them just by clicking on them.

Diary:

The views of these pages are configurable via a right click menu or the toolbar at the top of the page. You can display the pages as one day per page, one week per page, week per view or even working week per view. Placing information is as easy as clicking on the day and filling out the information in the boxes. This window also allows you to set a reminder with sound within a configurable amount of time, as well as allowing you to set this to repeat again when ever you want.

Tasks:

This tab brings you to an area where you can list all of those special projects that you've been putting off for so long. Ya know! Cleaning the eavestrough, weeding the garden, or getting in a nap! You can prioritize you tasks with the highest being listed first. The listing comes with a checkoff box to remind you that you've finally finished that chore! :) Here's a pic of a few of my major tasks I still have to do:

Addresses:

This is my favorite section of the Digita Organizer. I just love the layout. It reminds me of the yellow pages. :) Clicking on a section gives you the input window. A few of the sections are configurable such as e-mail address, fax, mobile numbers plus more. There is even an area for notes. Here's a pic of the setup window:

The finished listing are nice and neat and the e-mail and web site addresses are highlighted to allow your favorite e-mail client or web browser to start up with a click! Excellent!

Supplements:

Ahhhhhh..................... this is a special treat and bonus. The Digita Organizer comes with sections of pages called supplements which contain all kinds of information from Home and Garden, to History, to the World Chess Champions, conversion charts, taxation, plus many, many more. This is an incredible addition to a freeware program! There is a vast amount of information here and the best thing about it is that the web site allows you to download updated supplements, especially dealing with taxes. Here's a great pic of just one of the many supplements that are made available by Digita Organizer:

Digita Organizer also has an excellent day search feature which will allow you to find any day you need. For freeware, this really is a complete organizer.

Problems.........

None. However, I DO have a suggestion. I would like to see some kind of password protection for accessing this program from the desktop. Sure, you could download a utility which will do that for all of your program files, but I just thought that it would be appreciated by many users.

Closing.........

What is there to say! Digita Organizer is one masterful bit of code wrapped into one mighty freeware program. I have been checking out a few other pim's to compare and though many are different, I have yet to find one with the features and presentation that this one gives. It would be a great addition to anyone's computer desktop! Oh yeah, It's PRICELESSWARE too! Check that list out for more great freeware programs!

Enjoy
